BALL COMMUNITY / International design competition in Tehran

Shell structure, as a traditional construction way, has been used widely in Middle East till today. Big space, deep span, and full of imaginations become the aim created by the structure. In this proposal, complicated gridding steel frame were covered by the polished concrete.

There is a public corridor through the ground floor that combines the main street Valiasr and the east side of the building. By this pedestrian, the corridor not only serves as the access to the shops but also connects to the urban pedestrian system. There is a skylight-courtyard running through the whole building in the corridor. Different with the classical Islamic residential courtyard which was used to segregate from the city, this skylight-courtyard is a completely open public space. It creates micro climate and causes funnel function cooling the air. This idea comes from the local traditional sustainable construction way.

The facade of the building is covered with glass wall. The glass wall is built by laying acrylic glass pieces. The surface of the glass wall is full of anomaly holes, which breathe by self. The fa?ade is semi-transparency, and makes the whole big concrete building kindness and close.  Polished shell concrete with tint glass fa?ade forms the Boolean ball of BENETON Group, it looks like the genuine pearls from the Mediterranean. It is the new landmark of Teheran.
