MAXIMUM UNIT / Concept for “a House”

"Maximum unit" is the experimental program proposed against the current development status of the city in China. Urban living conditions of vulnerable groups caused concern in the community, such as Hong Kong cagehome. Current house prices surge in Chinese major cities, a "humble abode" became a social phenomenon, and container rental accommodation style even emerges. Among these "humble abode livers", some are white-collar workers who have just graduated from college and entered first-tier cities to work. Chinese-style high house prices are limiting the mobility of Chinese urban citizens, which in essence reduces the vitality of social and economic development. In order to ease the living pressure on urban migrants and improve social life mobility, the starting point for the formation of this program falls on how to achieve secured and personalized quality of life at the lowest cos. Based on the human scale, this program develops the most basic spatial dimensions: 1.82M × 1.82M × 1.82M cube. According to China’s main form of urban living – high residential building, that is to produce the maximum amount of space in the smallest space, "maximum unit"

adopts a vertical spatial organization model. Like "private lift for an apartment" mode, a number of residential living space is arranged in the cubic space vertically, and a compact living space similar to hard tack is formed. It is called "maximum unit." This "maximum unit" includes two major systems. One is called "Menu system"; the other is called the "Support system". "Menu system" is formed by a series of 1.82M × 1.82M plate function structures. Each lightweight plate structure is designed based on function, and formed by the one-time molding high-strength paper-fiber material. A functional space interface is formed after the surface treatment. The industrial produced lightweight prefabricated plate structure constitutes a "Menu system" wholly. Like supermarket products, consumers can purchase products different functions and choose the number of products according to the actual needs of the individual. The “Menu system" is currently designed into 20 different functions, and in practice can be infinitely expanded. These include: living room, bedroom, lawn, swimming pool, lobby, restaurant, bathroom, salon, games room, bar, kitchen, office, etc. Unlimited expansion capabilities make this product the smallest scale unit obtain the maximum unction possibility. The user can thus be able to gain an important space quality; diversity is placed into space products by mass production. As a result, this system is called the "maximum unit."

"Support system" is a simple electromechanical device, the control section can choose different functional space interface, or menu products, moved into the demand location in the cube space, and overlay other lightweight plate structure to form the most compact use space. In operation, choose the desired function, and lift the light plate structure, then vertically overlaying plate structures are separated, the upper part functions as the ceiling and the lower part functions as the base.

1.82M × 1.82M × 1.82M cube space is a pure space commodity. "Maximum unit" adapts to the characteristics of the space commodity, and provides the greatest diversity and quality of life to one “person-high” space. Industrial production and socialization supply combines to make the "Maximum unit" and has a good adaptability to provide maximum quality of life to urban migration people and "humble abode livers".
